CCTV Cameras in the Orange CBD

Orange City Council is seeking feedback on the Closed Circuit Tevleison Camera Project in the CBD. Orange City Council received $150,000 from the Federal Government to install CCTV in the Orange CBD. The aim of the project is to install data capture surveillance cameras in the Orange CBD to enhance citizen and shopper safety, provide deterrence to potential acts of vandalism and to assist in detection of anti-social and criminal behaviour.

The cameras have been installed and trial operations officially started in mid September 2008. Signs have also been placed around the CBD to alert people to the use of the cameras. There has been support and criticism of the project. The library on this site contains the CCTV Code of Practice and a June 08 update report that lists the CCTV locations.
